Holidays in Cyprus – Events Throughout the Year
More people than ever are choosing Cyprus for their holidays, and it’s not just the weather and romance of the island that attracts them – holidays in Cyprus are fantastic at any time of the year you decide to go, because there’s always something to do and something to see. With a wide range of events throughout the annual Cyprus calendar, you can tailor your holidays in Cyprus in order to coincide with a particular event if you wish.
If you don’t like the cold weather, winter is lovely in Cyprus. You can even escape the festive stresses by travelling there for an alternative type of Christmas. Although well known for their shyness, Cypriots really do celebrate Christmas in style! However, if you’d rather leave it a little later, there’s a spectacular 11 day carnival in February/March. If you’re staying in Limassol, make sure you check out its awesome final parade. At this time of year, there’s also sporting events too, such as ski races, car rallies, and the Cyprus marathon. If you’re not a big sports fan, the first of two annual fashion weeks are also held in March.
Festivals galore!
If you’re a music lover, then the International Music Festival in April will be ideal for you; its host city, Limassol, has many great hotels – Cyprus is famous for its hospitality and service, so you can’t really go wrong. One of the biggest religious festivals on the Cyprus calendar, Easter, also falls during March/April. Because the locals are so welcoming, you can take part in the popular midnight mass, or simply watch as the congregation holds its procession on Good Friday. More light-hearted activities carry on throughout the weekend, with families playing traditional games and holding picnics to celebrate.
If you’re taking your holidays in Cyprus during May, Limassol is the place to be if you want to enjoy the stunning Flower Festival. With exhibitions, markets, and shows, there’s plenty to take in with the fabulous flower parade being the icing on the cake. June, July and August are also busy times when it comes to celebrations and events. The Pentecost celebrations are great fun to watch or join in with, with water fights and swimming and boat races taking place across the island. The Ethnic Festival is also a joy, with global music performances taking place in July. There’s also more music festivals, the Shakespeare Festival and summer dance festivals hosted during this period.
Choosing hotels – Cyprus has plenty of choice
If you take your holidays in Cyprus in August/September make sure that you set some time aside for the Wine Festival. Shortly after, the second fashion week of the year takes place, along with Cyprus’s major sporting competition, the Lemesia. If you love the romance of vintage vehicles, head to Cyprus in November for the Forest Park Rally.
When taking your holidays in Cyprus, there’s no need to worry about hotels – Cyprus has a huge selection to suit any budget, so no matter what time of year you go, you’ll be able to find something that fits in with your needs.
